Informed decisions for sensitive system interventions

Restore operations are an integral part of modern IT and compliance structures. Depending on the use case, they directly interfere with live systems and therefore require a high degree of care, clarity, and a sense of responsibility.

With the new dual-control access management for restores, we are specifically expanding the existing range of functions to include an additional optional organisational safeguard, without undermining existing processes or unnecessarily complicating them.

Why is additional access control useful?

In many organisations, restore operations are carried out by authorised administrators. Nevertheless, there are situations in which a second assessment or approval is advisable, for example to prevent operational errors or to deliberately safeguard decisions.

The dual-control access control precisely supports this approach:
It supplements existing authorisation and security concepts with an additional approval level.

This feature is particularly suitable for:

  • production systems containing business-critical data
  • sensitive environments where restores need to be deliberately reviewed
  • organisations with clear role and responsibility models
  • teams wishing to ensure restore operations are properly secured within the organisation

The added value immediately

  • Additional layer of security
Restore operations can be carried out with a second approval.
  • Clear responsibilities
Decisions are made deliberately and distributed.
  • Structured workflow
The restore process is extended to include a clearly defined approval stage.
  • Seamless integration
The feature integrates into existing workflows without fundamentally altering them.

How dual-control access works

The process is deliberately kept simple and transparent:

Step 1

Initiating the restore process.

An administrator starts the restore as usual.

Step 2

Involvement of a second authorised person

This person automatically receives an email to approve or reject the request.

Step 3

Approval & execution

Once approved, the administrator is notified.
A direct link leads to the specific restore case in the portal.

Step 4

Traceable process

The entire workflow remains clearly structured and documented.

Additional security through the dual-control principle during restoration

This feature is not a replacement for existing security mechanisms, but a targeted extension. It helps organisations to carry out restoration processes in a conscious, structured, and responsible manner. Particularly where additional safeguards are advisable.
